My short-row scarf is done! My mother will have a beautiful gift on Mother’s Day – whew! Off to the mail tomorrow …
This short-row scarf drapes so nicely. It is like a collar as the ends are connected to reduce the amount of yarn needed to wrap around the neck. As an added bonus, the ends of the scarf do not come “unwrapped” as you are wear it. I especially like that there is less fabric wrapped around your neck, so the scarf feels lighter. There are so many things to like about this piece!
Here is a video to show how the short-row scarf is knitted.
Here is a little closer look at the connection point. This photo shows how it wears as a collar. To make the connection, you knit about 19″ of the scarf and then pick up a row of stitches about 3″ from the tail end and knit the rows together. After about 4 or 5 rows of connection, go back to knitting the single side.
This type of short-row scarf can be knit in any gauge with any size needle. For some reason I am drawn to tiny fabric – those skinny little sock yarns keep ending up in my shopping basket. But, you could knit this short-row scarf with a larger needle and a chunky yarn and it would be beautiful and quick!
During the knitting process, I made a few videos to show you how the connection point is made and one to show you how it looks when it is finished and on. As soon as I get done editing the videos, this post will get updated and links to the videos will be included. I will also take a stab at writing the pattern so that you can make a short-row scarf too!
