It always starts with curiosity. How did you do that? Seems to be the most popular question. We look at something and marvel and wonder … how can I do that? That is where this blog will start.
Answering the question How?
There are tons of things to learn. By nature, I am a very curious person and I want to make things. My hands are rarely still. I am constantly touching everything!
Knitting is one of my fascinations. I watched one of my grandmother’s knit and one crochet. For some reason though, knitting was always my favorite. I think I like the results, I like the sound of the needles and I love the feeling of the fibers through my fingers.
Learning to knit did not come easily … My Gran was a lefty, I am a righty … we only visited with her a couple times a year – so, kitting lessons were few and far between. My first project was a 1980’s inspired leg warmer pattern and I picked an oh-so lovely, variegated blue boucle´. The tiny little loops on the yarn were so easily confused with my tightly pulled stitches. I got frustrated and gave up right away.
I came back to knitting after college, then again after I got married … then I had my little ones and stopped knitting for a long time … I did not come back to knitting until a few years ago – and I was thrilled to find YOUTUBE! If I had a question in the middle of the night, I could ask my computer! Around the same time, I moved to a small town with a wonderful knitting shop. Learning from my mistakes, I kept knitting and seeking information.
Today, I feel like I am knowledgeable enough to share some of what I know. We will start with how to wind a ball of yarn.
