Exploring natural color

Exploring natural color

Exploring a natural color combination today.

Mineral and laundered hues are catching my eye this summer.  As I prepare to start the dye pots up in the backyard, I am searching for a few color combinations to try and achieve.  In particular, I would like to dye an apricot, copper, sort of color.  Pantone calls the shade Caramel Cream. Ideally, I would like to then create some Zephyr Blue and Pink Tint.

Natural items to use:

Madder Root will be my go to plant for the Caramel Cream color.  As the bath exhausts it might also be able to create the pink tint color.  I am not sure what will acheive the Zephyr Blue, perhaps a eucalyptus?  We will have to play around in the dye pots a little bit to see how the colors turn out.

I am looking forward to dyeing about 3 yards of linen fabric for a fun top and skirt combination.  Or I might do some stencil dying for a dress.  Who knows what will come our of the dye pot?

Last year was the first time I explored dyeing yarn and fabrics.  I set up a little workshop on my deck and got some gorgeous colors that I knitted over the winter.

This year, I would like to pay a little more attention to what is going into the pots and what we are getting out so that I can have some patterns in mind!
