The ‘Mickey’ hat is finished! My handsome son agreed to be my model. This is exactly how I wanted the hat to turn out. The yarn has a beautify drape to it. It is not super stiff and feels soft to the touch, I love that it has one roll at the bottom of the hat – really made the tubular cast-on worth while. I used a size 3 set of Addi Turbo Rockets in 32″ to allow for the Magic Loop technique of knitting in the round.
There are 4 decrease sections in the crown of the hat. I evenly divided the stitches into 4 sections with markers. As I approached each section I did a leaning decrease with a knit stitch in the center: *SSK, K, K2Tog*.
The two stitches lean up against the ridge of the center single stitch. If you look closely you can see how the stitches come together to form a pretty textural row element from the brim to the crown. I really like how the wool has great depth in color. It appears to have some very black places, then some that are blue and a final sheen of a deep purple. Both of my boys look fantastic in the hat. I wonder who will go for it first next winter?
