Knitting Offers Chances

Knitting Offers Chances

IMG_0905Knitting offers chances.  A chance to start fresh, a chance to learn, a chance to try something new.  I just ran out to walk my little doggie and noticed that the first sprouts of my daffodils are peeking up from the snow.  They reminded me that they have a new chance … immediately, I ran over to see if my hosta are peeking up from the snow – last year they got eaten by the snow.  This year, I have a chance to save them … with mothballs!  Apparently, mothballs are offensive to deer too!

For my new knitting project – swatching is the bet.  It is my new chance at making a project the exact size of my measurements.  If I get this one right, it literally will be the first time I have measured something for knitting and actually knitted the size I expected.  Needless to say, I have already cast-on and torn out too many times to count.  But, I think I finally got it right!

IMG_0924I am making a hat from Madelinetosh Sport weight El Grecco yarn on size 3 needles.  It already feels so soft.  I am not following a pattern – which makes the task so much harder.  Searching on Ravelry did not yield a pattern that matched my design or the type yarn I am using — that could possibly be a signal to STOP!  It is just not my way to find an obstacle and give up, if I can’t find what I want, I have to take the opportunity, risk the chance and try to make it on my own.  Let’s see how this one turns out!
